Mobile Solar Learning
In response to the pandemic: setting up a digital learning platform
From 2020 to 2022, Solafrica implemented the Mobile Solar Learning project in Kenya and Tanzania together with local partner organizations. The aim was to continue teaching solar technology digitally during the pandemic-related school closures and to ensure that vocational students have access to learning content.
Context and challenges
In response to the coronavirus pandemic, Solafrica developed a mobile learning platform for solar technology – the first of its kind in the region. As many trainees do not own a computer, it was specially designed for smartphones. The platform provides up-to-date learning content at all times, facilitates communication between students and teachers and enables flexible, location-independent training.
Hundreds of young people used the mobile learning platform
In Kenya, four classes have completed the digital course
A pilot phase with 24 young people was successfully implemented in Tanzania
By integrating the learning platform into existing training programs, the benefits continued beyond the end of the project. In addition, a guide to the use and further development of the learning platform was created and made available to interested organizations.
The successful pilot phase in Tanzania gave rise to today’s Solar Learning Tanzania project:
