Solar Learning DR Congo
Solar energy for new prospects in the Democratic Republic of Congo
From 2018 to 2020, Solafrica carried out the Solar Learning project together with the École professionnelle du bâtiment (Eproba) vocational school in Kinshasa. The aim was to set up a course in solar technology and small-scale entrepreneurship in order to open up career prospects for young people and promote access to sustainable energy.
Context and challenges
In close cooperation with Eproba, a new training course in solar technology was created – the first of its kind in Kinshasa. Teachers were trained, teaching materials were developed and the course was successfully integrated into school operations. In 2020, the programme received state recognition – an important milestone for the long-term establishment of solar education in the DR Congo.
Development of a state-recognized course for solar technology and small entrepreneurship
Over 50 graduates with recognized professional qualifications
Strengthening local specialists and the solar market in Kinshasa
Thanks to the close partnership with Eproba, the training is now being continued independently – a sustainable contribution to energy access, employment and climate protection.
The experience gained in Kinshasa flows directly into the Solar Learning projects that are now being implemented in several African countries.
