Scouts go Solar Switzerland raises awareness among Scouts throughout the country about solar energy, energy efficiency and climate protection. Workshops and experiments bring knowledge to life and inspire concrete action both within and outside the Scout movement.

Initial situation and challenges
The energy transition needs minds that think – and hands that get to work. Children and young people in Switzerland should learn early on how energy works and what they themselves can contribute to a more sustainable future.
Scouts go Solar has been operating successfully internationally for over ten years(Scouts go Solar International). Experience shows: When solar education is tailored to the national context and implemented with strong partners, it has a real impact. This is precisely where Scouts go Solar Switzerland comes in – with a customised educational program for the Swiss Scout movement.
Our approach
Since its launch at the national Scout camp in 2022, Scouts go Solar Switzerland has been systematically developed further. Together with the Swiss Guide and Scout Movement (SGSM), Solafrica is developing a modular offer:
- Development and provision of freely available educational materials and experiments in German, French and Italian
- Loan service for workshop materials and a mobile solar system – ideal for camps, courses and your own workshops
- Offering supervised and unsupervised workshops for scout camps, training courses for leaders and other scouting activities
The materials are designed so that they can be used independently – by scout leaders, teachers or other multipliers. In addition, the project team is present at conferences, camps and events to anchor Scouts go Solar Switzerland in the Swiss Scout Movement in the long term.

Effect
Whether soldering a solar lamp, building a solar stove or discussing climate change: thanks to Scouts go Solar Switzerland, the scouts experience solar energy in a practical way. Not only do they understand how it works – they also learn what they can achieve with it.
Experience from the 2022 national camp has shown how much enthusiasm young people can have for energy topics when they are taught in a practical and experience-oriented way. Scouts go Solar Switzerland taps into this potential – and brings solar energy into the everyday lives of scout groups throughout the country.
