Initial situation and challenges
The climate crisis affects young people particularly hard – yet at the same time, they often have little say in the matter. However, they are crucial for the future of our planet. In many regions of the world, however, there is a lack of access to knowledge, technologies and networks to enable them to take action themselves.
The global Scout Movement offers enormous potential here: with over 57 million members firmly anchored in local communities, it is an ideal network for raising awareness of renewable energies and offering and demonstrating opportunities for young people to take action.
Our approach
Every year, Scouts go Solar trains scout leaders from different countries to become solar ambassadors. The training courses take place in a different region of the world and combine theory with practice: participants learn how solar energy works, how to plan age-appropriate activities and how to build their own solar devices.
They then implement their own projects – for example solar stoves in schools, educational workshops or community projects in rural areas. In this way, they spread knowledge about solar energy far beyond the Scout movement.
At the same time, long-term competence centres are being created in the regions, which can carry out further training independently.

Effect
Through Scouts go Solar, scouts learn how they can become active themselves and make a difference – for the climate, for their community and for themselves. The trained solar ambassadors inspire others, impart practical knowledge and implement concrete projects.
They bring solar energy to life – whether with a solar stove in the schoolyard, a debate on energy policy or a series of workshops in the village centre. This is creating a global movement of young people who are committed to climate protection – with their heart, mind and solar energy.
