Innovation
Solar energy can only work if the conditions are right. We use innovative approaches to strengthen people, markets and structures – so that good ideas take root and the energy transition progressing worldwide.
Today, solar energy is more sophisticated and cheaper than ever – and its potential is far from exhausted. For it to be effective in the long term and for the energy transition to succeed global, not only is the expansion of existing systems needed, but also research, development and new solutions for new contexts. At the same time, many regions lack the necessary conditions for solar energy to gain a foothold in the first place: The local solar sector is insufficiently networked, the necessary expertise is lacking or there is a lack of trust and visible successes. Particularly in rural areas or informal markets, it is clear that technology alone is not enough.
Together with local partner organisations, universities, authorities and companies, we develop practical solutions – from pilot projects with new technologies to improving the political and economic framework conditions. Our innovations are not (only) created in the laboratory, but in exchange with reality. And they start exactly where technology, the market and society meet.
Innovation paves the way for solar energy to become self-sustaining in the long term. The effect is not always visible overnight, but it enables the development of climate-friendly systems. Our aim is for local players and systems to be prepared to shape the energy transition themselves. So that solar energy not only has a one-off effect, but also enables a sustainable future.
Innovation projects
are trained annually in the field of solar fuels at the Technological University in Adama (Ethiopia).
Big change often starts small: with a new idea, a pilot project or the courage to rethink things. With your donation, you support innovation that paves the way to a sustainable energy future.
