Solar Learning Ethiopia (2019–2023)
Solar energy creates opportunities for young people
From 2017 to 2023, we implemented the first phase of the Solar Learning Ethiopia project together with our partner organisation Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). The aim was to enable 500 young adults to enter the solar industry and at the same time improve access to sustainable energy in rural regions.

Context and challenges
In cooperation with Ethiopian vocational schools, young people were trained in the installation, maintenance and sale of solar systems. During their training, they implemented numerous practical projects and sustainably improved living conditions in rural regions.
496 young people
were trained as solar specialists.
More than
7000 small solar systems
were installed in remote households.
40,000 people
got access to light and electricity.
Solar Learning Ethiopia shows how vocational training and energy access can work together to create opportunities. Following the successful completion of the first phase, the program is now being continued in a second phase.
