On the construction site, you are often underestimated. But if you believe in yourself, you can make it!\u00bb, says Damaris Kamau (24).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She speaks from experience \u2013 because she has established herself in the solar industry in Kenya. Damaris grew up in a family with four siblings. Her parents did not always have enough money to cover all the school fees. Nevertheless, she was able to complete primary school in 2019. \u00abBut then the COVID-19 pandemic came, and I had no prospects anymore\u00bb, she recalls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/solafrica.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/SPA_5304-2-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Damaris Kamau, Solarausbildung\" class=\"wp-image-20052\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2022, Damaris seized the opportunity and applied for a training spot in our\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/solafrica.ch\/en\/projects\/solar-learning\/\"><strong>Solar Learning Youth Centers<\/strong>\u00a0<\/a>project. At first, she was shy, but through hard work and with the support of Stanley Kung\u2019u Nfuguna, a psychologist employed by the project, she gained tremendous self-confidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00abThe training helps us women to gain recognition in the solar sector\u00bb, says Damaris. When we visited her at the beginning of the year, Damaris was working confidently on the construction site of the new headquarters of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in Nairobi, contributing to a large-scale solar installation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/solafrica.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/IMG_0112-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"UN-Geb\u00e4ude mit Solaranlage\" class=\"wp-image-20057\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kenya is increasingly focusing on solar energy, but there is a shortage of qualified professionals.
